Sam relies largely on advocacy work, engagement/focus group participation, health & wellness educational opportunities, INJ20K Private Facebook Group feedback, and her own personal lived experiences when responding to requests how to be better trauma-informed when interacting with MST survivors. However obtaining as much current insight is crucial to providing relevant advice. In order to do that, an open call of interest to be part of an Advice Group was put out to the INJ20K survivor Group and serving CAF members.
The goal is to attempt to ensure that the Advice Group is made up of individuals that represent serving members, veterans, and organizations that help support our pillars of operation and perhaps help move positive and respectful culture change forward.
One thing any serving or retired CAF member will tell you is that there are huge cultural differences between Branches of service (Navy, Army, Air) that influences behaviours and solutions. A proposed culture change may work well within one Branch, but be difficult to manage in another based on operational and traditional norms. Occupations (trades) and types of service (Regular vs Reserve Force) also create a degree of prejudgement and misunderstanding.
These individuals have graciously agreed to be on "speed dial" to provide a second look to ensure as much as possible that equitable, diverse, and inclusive solutions are suggested that take into account a number of lived experience perspectives.
